The Sixth annual Jason’s Hogfan Party to raise money for leukemia and lymphoma research was another success thanks to the generosity of you and so many others. Jason would be proud to know that we have raised so much money to help in the search for a cure. Jason was the inspiration behind the development of our foundation but it is with your support that we are able to continue to raise money every year. Jason, a huge Star Wars fan, would be especially thrilled to know that this year’s event featured the 501st Legion and the Rebel Legion Star Wars members who helped increase the money raised and brought a fun and innovative way to spend the evening.
This year we have raised almost $25,000 and we will continue to fund Dr Rob Baiocchi and his team at The Ohio State University Cancer Research Center in Columbus Ohio. As he has every year, Dr. Baiocchi was present and addressed the Hogfan Party and spoke about their progress and how grateful they are to have our continued support. The money we raised in 2014 was used to further research on how viruses cause cancer. Specifically, a vaccine for the Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) which Jason was infected with and developed a fatal lymphoma from, is now ready for “first in human” trials! A new drug called Silvestrol was developed that kills EBV and simultaneously boosts immunity to EBV. Our donations have helped to complete new and innovative cancer drug strategies and Dr Baiocchi said that we are now featured in many of their publications as contributors.
With these kind of results, we can’t stop now! Plans are already under way for the Seventh Jason’s Hogfan party and once we have finalized a date and location we will let you know. We hope you will join us again next year and continue to support this important work to help find a cure.
